Himalayan floods kill over 1,000 across Nepal and China as search continues

Rescue operations are intensifying across the Nepal-Tibet border region following catastrophic flooding that has displaced thousands and destroyed critical infrastructure. The disaster has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people, with authorities warning that the death toll is expected to rise as recovery efforts continue in remote mountainous areas.

Among those unaccounted for is Vennila, sister of Malaysian resident Vasanthi Muniandy. Vennila was part of a Hindu pilgrimage group that crossed from Nepal into Tibet when the floods struck. Vasanthi last made contact with her sister shortly before the group entered the border region, and has since been unable to reach her.

The flooding has affected communities across both Nepal and China's Tibetan regions, with entire villages cut off by swollen rivers and landslides. Local authorities report that communication networks remain severely disrupted, hampering efforts to account for the missing and coordinate rescue missions.

Governments in both nations have deployed emergency response teams to affected areas. International aid agencies are preparing to assist with recovery efforts, though difficult terrain and ongoing weather conditions are complicating relief operations.
