Shares of Hindustan Copper Limited declined as much as 7 per cent following the government's announcement of a public offer for sale, as investor sentiment turned cautious ahead of the stock dilution.
The Union government fixed the floor price for the offer at ₹514 per share, representing a 10.4 per cent discount to the previous close of ₹574.15 on the National Stock Exchange. The pricing reflects the government's intent to mobilize capital while managing market impact through the discounted valuation.
Offer for sale transactions by the government typically put downward pressure on share prices in the immediate term, as they signal an increase in the free float and potential supply overhang. The discount mechanism is designed to attract institutional and retail investors to absorb the additional shares being released into the market.
The move marks the latest in a series of government divestments aimed at strengthening public finances. Hindustan Copper, a Navratna-status enterprise, remains a significant player in India's mining sector, with operations spanning copper exploration, mining, and processing across multiple locations in the country.
