Hindustan Zinc targets value-added products for market expansion

Hindustan Zinc Limited is charting an aggressive growth strategy centred on value-added zinc products to strengthen its market position in India and globally. The company aims to leverage downstream product development alongside capacity expansion to capture higher margins and meet evolving customer demand across sectors including automotive, construction, and pharmaceuticals.

The ambitious capacity expansion roadmap will see production increase from current levels to 2.1 million tonnes within three to four years, according to company leadership. The expansion will involve both brownfield enhancements at existing facilities and greenfield development to support the increased output.

Beyond zinc, Hindustan Zinc is exploring opportunities in rare-earth minerals, seeking to diversify its resource portfolio and tap emerging demand from technology and renewable energy sectors. The exploration activities are part of a broader strategic pivot toward value creation beyond commodity production.

The company's focus on value-added products signals a shift from competing primarily on commodity pricing to offering specialised zinc compounds and alloys tailored to specific industrial applications. This approach aims to insulate the company from commodity price volatility while strengthening customer relationships through tailored solutions.
