The Wildlands Conservancy has secured the AP Ranch, one of Northern California's oldest cattle operations, in a significant move to expand environmental protection in the region. The acquisition, situated in Siskiyou County, marks a strategic shift in land use for the property, which has functioned as a working ranch since its establishment in 1856.
The 14,177-acre purchase will be consolidated with an adjacent land reserve already under conservation management, resulting in a contiguous protected area surpassing 20,000 acres. This consolidation creates a substantial ecological corridor across the landscape, addressing long-standing conservation priorities in the region.
The preserve will prioritize protection of critical wildlife migration routes and water sources within the Scott River watershed, an area recognized for its ecological significance.
