Historic Cincinnati warehouse shortened for new Ohio River bridge

Longworth Hall in Cincinnati has undergone a significant structural modification to accommodate infrastructure development along the Ohio River. The century-old railroad warehouse, which originally measured 1,227 feet in length, has had approximately 210 feet removed from its footprint, reducing what was once considered among the world's longest buildings.

The demolition is part of a broader project to construct a new bridge across the Ohio River. Despite the substantial reduction in size, the majority of the historic 1904 structure has been preserved, maintaining its architectural and historical significance.

In a sustainable approach to the renovation, bricks recovered from the demolished eastern section of the building are being reused to reconstruct and reinforce the warehouse's east end. This conservation effort ensures that materials from the original structure contribute to its continued preservation and functionality.

The project represents a balance between modern infrastructure needs and historical preservation, allowing the warehouse to retain its presence in Cincinnati's industrial landscape while adapting to contemporary urban development requirements.
