Ho Chi Minh City accelerates recovery of war martyrs' remains

Ho Chi Minh City authorities have intensified coordination efforts in the second phase of a 500-day campaign to recover the remains of war martyrs, with significant progress reported in recent months. As of October 28, recovery teams had located 857 sets of remains, including 852 discovered at Le Thi Rieng Park and five found in Thuong Tan commune.

The campaign reached a major milestone on October 14, when authorities held a solemn memorial service and burial ceremony for 731 sets of remains recovered from Le Thi Rieng Park. The remains were subsequently reburied with full honors at Ho Chi Minh City's Martyrs' Cemetery, providing proper final resting places for the fallen soldiers.

The recovery effort reflects a broader regional initiative across Vietnam to locate and respectfully repatriate war casualties. Hanoi has completed sampling procedures at all planned martyrs' graves as part of the nationwide program, while Dong Nai Province has recovered 120 sets of remains from Cambodia. Authorities expect the coordinated approach will continue to yield results as the campaign progresses through its remaining phases.

The 500-day campaign represents a comprehensive effort by Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces to address historical burial sites and ensure proper recognition of those who died during Vietnam's conflicts. Officials have pledged to maintain momentum in the coming months to locate additional remains and provide closure to families of the fallen.
