Ho Chi Minh City courts UAE investment for southern energy hub

Ho Chi Minh City officials have made a direct appeal to leading United Arab Emirates energy groups to consider investing in an ambitious energy development project in Ba Ria–Vung Tau province, located in southern Vietnam's industrial heartland.

The proposed energy hub would leverage Vietnam's strategic location to serve both domestic demand and regional markets across Southeast Asia. Local authorities view the project as a key component of economic diversification and infrastructure development in the southern region.

The initiative reflects Vietnam's broader push to strengthen bilateral relations with Gulf Cooperation Council nations. Recent diplomatic milestones between Hanoi and Abu Dhabi include a third round of political consultations between foreign ministries, defense industry cooperation agreements, and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which has expanded market access for Vietnamese goods across the UAE, Middle East, and Africa.

The Ba Ria–Vung Tau project represents a concrete opportunity for Vietnamese-UAE cooperation to translate into tangible investments that could strengthen energy security and economic ties between the two nations. Officials have emphasized the region's competitive advantages, including proximity to major shipping routes and existing industrial infrastructure.
