Ho Chi Minh City's economy expanded at a solid pace in the third quarter, with gross domestic product growth reaching 9.86%, official data showed. The expansion marks a robust performance for Vietnam's largest city and commercial hub, with cumulative nine-month growth now standing at 9.06% compared with the same period last year.
Economists attribute the city's continued expansion to three primary drivers. Sustained foreign direct investment inflows have provided capital for business expansion and infrastructure development. The services sector has proven particularly resilient, continuing to generate strong economic activity. Meanwhile, accelerated public investment spending has supported demand across multiple economic sectors.
City authorities are targeting sustained growth through the fourth quarter as they seek to close out 2026 on a positive trajectory. The city is also working to attract higher-value foreign investment while advancing sustainability initiatives, including waste-to-energy treatment infrastructure. Ho Chi Minh City is positioned to co-host an autumn economic forum in partnership with the World Economic Forum, further cementing its role as a regional economic center.
