Ho Chi Minh City has launched a Centre of Excellence for artificial intelligence, establishing a collaborative ecosystem intended to position the southern metropolis as a regional technology hub. The initiative brings together state agencies, universities and commercial enterprises under a unified framework to drive AI advancement.
According to a memorandum of understanding governing the centre's operations, the facility will function as a focal point for multiple objectives spanning research and development, startup incubation and acceleration programmes, and the deployment of AI technologies across economic sectors. Officials envision the centre serving broader industrial modernisation goals across Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding regions.
The establishment of the AI Centre of Excellence reflects Vietnam's broader push to develop high-technology infrastructure and expertise. Recent government efforts have included consideration of similar facilities in other provinces, including Bac Ninh, while senior officials have pursued technological partnerships internationally to strengthen domestic capabilities.
The move comes amid growing regional competition for artificial intelligence talent and investment. Neighbouring countries have similarly prioritised AI development as a strategic priority, prompting Vietnam to accelerate its own initiatives to attract foreign investment and develop local expertise in the sector.
