The Home Ministry has transferred three officers from its Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) division in response to bribery allegations that have cast a shadow over the department. The administrative action was initiated shortly after Delhi Police arrested two government employees on charges of seeking illegal gratification to expedite applications under the FCRA framework.
The FCRA division, responsible for regulating foreign donations to Indian organizations and non-governmental bodies, had come under scrutiny following the apprehension of the two officials. The police alleged that the officers were demanding bribes from applicants seeking FCRA registration, a critical requirement for organizations receiving foreign funds.
With three of the five officers now reassigned, the Home Ministry appears to be taking steps to restore institutional integrity to the division. The transfers represent a significant personnel overhaul within the department, though officials have not disclosed the new postings or detailed reasons for each transfer.
The incident underscores growing concerns about procedural transparency within government agencies handling regulatory matters. The FCRA, a key legislation governing the acceptance of foreign contributions by Indian entities, requires robust institutional safeguards to prevent corruption and maintain public confidence.
