Homeowners advised to check for termites before repainting wooden doors
Experts warn that applying fresh paint to wooden doors and windows without first treating termite infestations is futile, as the pests will continue to damage the underlying wood structure regardless of cosmetic improvements.

With festival season prompting many Indian homeowners to refresh their doors and windows with new paint, pest control specialists are cautioning against overlooking a critical preliminary step: inspecting for and treating termite infestations.
While fresh paint can restore the aesthetic appeal of wooden fixtures, it cannot address existing termite damage within the wood itself. Termites work from inside the material outward, meaning an infestation will continue to compromise structural integrity even after a fresh coat of paint is applied.
"No amount of paint will prevent termites from destroying a wooden door if the insects are already present," experts note. "The pests tunnel through the wood, creating hollow sections that weaken the entire structure over time."
Homeowners planning pre-festive renovations are strongly advised to have their wooden doors, windows, and frames professionally inspected for termite activity before scheduling painting work. Early detection and appropriate pest control treatment can prevent costly damage and ensure that newly painted surfaces protect wood that remains sound and structurally intact.
