MANILA – Senator Risa Hontiveros said Sunday she anticipates Vice President Sara Duterte will appear before lawmakers during budget hearings for the Office of the Vice President, following the established protocol observed by heads of other government departments.
Hontiveros based her expectation on an explicit statement made by Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian during a recent committee hearing, according to the senator's remarks. The budget deliberation process typically requires agency leaders to present and defend their budget proposals before the Senate.
The Office of the Vice President, like other executive branch offices, must undergo legislative scrutiny of its proposed budget allocations. This annual exercise allows lawmakers to review funding requests and ensure fiscal accountability across government agencies.
Duterte has served as Vice President since June 2022, heading an office responsible for various administrative and policy functions within the executive branch.
