A survey conducted by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has uncovered substantial gaps between the trade price and maximum retail price (MRP) of various medical consumables commonly used in hospitals. In some cases, products available at trade prices as low as ₹11 are being billed to patients at MRP figures exceeding ₹325, according to findings presented by officials.
The price differential raises concerns about transparency in hospital billing and the potential for patient exploitation through inflated charges on consumable medical items. Such discrepancies suggest that patients may be paying significantly higher amounts than the actual cost of supplies, contributing to the overall burden of healthcare expenses in the country.
