Hotel sector investment nearly trebles in first half of 2026

India's hotel investment landscape has experienced a sharp acceleration, with deal volumes nearly trebling to $497 million during the first half of 2026, signalling robust growth in the hospitality real estate sector.

Developer-led transactions emerged as the primary growth driver, accounting for 58 per cent of total deal activity during the six-month period. This concentration underscores the confidence of major hospitality players in expanding their portfolios amid improving market conditions and sustained travel demand recovery.

Geographic diversification has been equally significant, with Tier-II and Tier-III cities capturing 60 per cent of investment activity. This rebalancing away from traditional metropolitan hubs reflects a strategic shift toward emerging leisure and business destinations, where hotel assets are commanding investor attention due to rising tourism and corporate travel patterns.

The surge in hotel investments reflects broader market dynamics, including improved occupancy rates, strengthened average room rates, and increased appetite from institutional investors seeking exposure to India's growing travel and hospitality sector. The shift toward secondary cities also indicates developers' efforts to tap underserved markets with growing infrastructure development and enhanced connectivity.

The momentum observed in H1 2026 suggests sustained investor confidence in India's hospitality sector, though market participants will continue monitoring macroeconomic factors and travel demand sustainability in coming quarters.
