MANILA — The House of Representatives has cleared the way for Cebu Pacific to continue operations for the next 50 years after approving a franchise renewal bill on final reading. House Bill No. 11536, which would extend the franchise granted to Cebu Air Inc., garnered 289 votes in favor during Monday's session, with no opposing votes recorded and no abstentions.
The decisive passage marks a significant milestone for the country's largest low-cost carrier, which has become a major player in Philippine aviation since its establishment. The franchise extension will provide the airline with regulatory certainty as it continues to expand its domestic and international route network.
Cebu Pacific has played a key role in opening up air travel to millions of Filipinos through its budget-friendly fares and extensive flight schedules. The carrier operates hundreds of daily flights connecting major cities and provinces throughout the archipelago.
With the House's approval secured, the measure now moves to the Senate for deliberation. The franchise renewal is expected to support the airline's continued investment in fleet modernization and service expansion across Southeast Asia.
