MANILA — The lower chamber moved forward Monday with efforts to prolong its current session in order to complete budget deliberations before the year ends. Deputy Majority Leader Arnan Panaligan of Oriental Mindoro sponsored the resolution seeking concurrent action from the Senate on the proposed extension.

The budget measure remains a key legislative priority for lawmakers, requiring approval through all three readings before it can advance. By extending the session deadline to October 12, the House aims to secure the necessary time for comprehensive deliberation and final passage of the spending plan.

The resolution now awaits Senate consideration for the chamber to formally concur with the extended timeline. Both chambers must agree on session extensions affecting the legislative calendar, requiring coordinated action between the two houses of Congress.

The 2027 national budget is expected to allocate government resources across key spending areas including infrastructure, education, health, and social services for the coming fiscal year.
