MANILA — Representatives filed the 2027 national budget bill on Wednesday, launching the legislative process for the government's largest-ever annual spending plan. The P7.2-trillion measure now faces scrutiny from House committees before advancing to the chamber floor for a final vote expected within the coming weeks.

Nueva Ecija Rep. Mikaela Suansing, chair of the House appropriations committee, led the filing of the budget bill, which outlines how the national government will allocate resources across all departments and agencies for the fiscal year.

The timeline suggests lawmakers aim to complete congressional deliberations and secure final passage by October, allowing sufficient time for the Senate to conduct its own budget review process. The spending plan requires approval from both chambers before submission to the President.

The filing marks the beginning of what is typically the most significant legislative undertaking of the congressional calendar, as lawmakers weigh competing priorities for infrastructure, social services, defense, and economic development.
