MANILA — Senior House of Representatives officials have moved to quash rumors linking Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III to discussions about replacing Vice President Sara Duterte, characterizing such talk as premature.
In separate statements Thursday, Deputy Speaker Janette Garin and Batangas Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte rejected suggestions that lawmakers were preparing Dy for a potential VP vacancy. Both officials stressed that such succession scenarios remain speculative at this stage.
The denials emerge amid ongoing tensions between the administration and the Vice President, with various constitutional questions remaining unresolved regarding presidential succession and potential vacancies in the second-highest office.
Dy, who has served as Speaker of the House, has not publicly commented on the speculation. Administration officials have generally sought to downplay succession planning discussions as premature given the uncertain nature of current political developments.
