MANILA — A bill to establish the Sierra Madre Mountain Range Authority (SMMRA) has advanced past the House committee stage, marking progress on a priority legislative item for the chamber. House Bill No. 3538, principally authored by Speaker Faustino "Bojie" G. Dy III, consolidates multiple earlier proposals into a single measure aimed at managing and protecting the mountain range. The House of Representatives confirmed the committee clearance in a statement released Tuesday. The creation of the SMMRA is intended to provide centralized oversight and coordination for the conservation and sustainable management of the Sierra Madre, the country's longest mountain range.
