MANILA — The House Committee on Labor and Employment has endorsed House Bill No. 10559, which seeks to fortify protections for workers facing weather-related occupational hazards. The measure, contained in Committee Report No. 552, proposes amendments to the existing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) framework to account for climate and weather-related threats in workplaces across the country.
The proposed legislation responds to growing concerns over worker safety during adverse weather conditions, particularly relevant in a tropical archipelago prone to typhoons, heavy rainfall, and extreme heat. By integrating weather considerations into OSH standards, the bill aims to establish clearer guidelines for employers regarding work suspensions, safety protocols, and worker protections during dangerous weather events.
