MANILA — The House of Representatives on Wednesday gave final approval to legislation designed to fortify protections for Filipino workers against climate-related occupational hazards. House Bill No. 10559 secured passage on third and final reading with 256 lawmakers voting in favor, underscoring broad support for the initiative across the chamber.
The measure strengthens existing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards by incorporating climate-adaptive safeguards into workplace regulations. The bill recognizes the growing threat posed by extreme weather events and changing environmental conditions to workers across multiple sectors, from agriculture and construction to manufacturing and services.
The legislation is expected to establish new protocols and standards that employers must implement to protect their workforce from climate-related dangers. These measures are intended to address emerging occupational health risks as the Philippines faces increasing vulnerability to typhoons, flooding, and heat-related illnesses.
The bill now advances to the Senate for consideration.
