House prosecution eyes quick wrap-up in VP funds inquiry

MANILA — Lead prosecutor Rep. Gerville Luistro said Sunday that the House prosecution aims to complete its case presentation in the ongoing inquiry into Vice President Sara Duterte's handling of confidential and intelligence funds within days.

Luistro disclosed that only five subpoenaed witnesses remain on the prosecution's witness list, a significant reduction as the high-profile proceedings enter what appears to be their final phase. The completion timeline would mark a major milestone in the impeachment proceedings that have drawn national attention.

The inquiry centers on allegations that Duterte misused confidential and intelligence funds during her tenure as Davao City mayor and in her current position as vice president. The prosecution has been presenting evidence and testimonies to support these claims.

Once the prosecution concludes its presentation, the defense team will have the opportunity to present its counter-arguments and witnesses. The House plenary will then deliberate on whether to proceed with impeachment or dismiss the charges.
