MANILA — Lead prosecutor and Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro said the House impeachment panel is poised to finish presenting its case against Vice President Sara Duterte concerning allegedly unexplained wealth by the end of October.
Luistro's optimism was anchored on the scheduled full-day trial proceedings set for next month, which would accelerate the pace of evidence presentation currently underway in the lower chamber.
The House prosecution panel has been building its case against the Vice President as part of the impeachment proceedings initiated by several lawmakers earlier this year. The unexplained wealth component forms a significant portion of the allegations being examined.
The Senate has separately approved a new schedule for its own impeachment proceedings, establishing a parallel timeline for the upper chamber's consideration of charges should the House vote to impeach.
With the October target date, the prosecution aims to maintain momentum in the case while allowing the House sufficient time for deliberation before proceeding to any formal vote on impeachment articles.
