MANILA — The decision to call Ramil Madriaga as a witness in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte will hinge on the evidentiary requirements of the case, according to the House prosecution team.
Benjamin "Jay" Tolosa Jr., counsel and spokesperson for the House prosecution, said in a statement Thursday that the team would evaluate whether Madriaga's testimony is necessary based on the evidence already presented during the trial and the remaining facts that need to be proven.
The House prosecution has been building its case against the Vice President through testimony and documentary evidence presented before the Senate, which is hearing the impeachment complaint. The team's decision on witness selection reflects a strategic approach to presenting only the evidence deemed critical to proving the charges.
Madriaga's potential involvement in the impeachment case remains significant, though the prosecution has yet to formally commit to calling him as a witness. The House team continues to assess its litigation strategy as the trial proceeds.
