MANILA — House prosecutors announced they will trace the source of a P33.35-million increase in Vice President Sara Duterte's declared net worth spanning from 2021 to 2025, according to prosecution counsel and spokesperson Benjamin Tolosa Jr. during Tuesday's impeachment trial proceedings.
Tolosa said the prosecution team intends to scrutinize the substantial growth in the vice president's financial assets and determine whether the amount can be adequately explained and documented.
The investigation into the wealth increase forms part of the broader impeachment proceedings against Duterte, which have centered on questions regarding the management and declaration of her financial records. Prosecutors are expected to present evidence and conduct questioning aimed at establishing the legitimacy of the wealth accumulation during the specified period.
The vice president has not yet publicly responded to the prosecution's announced focus on her declared net worth. The impeachment trial continues to examine various aspects of Duterte's conduct and financial disclosures since taking office in 2022.
