House trial spokesperson: VP Duterte responsible for own impeachment

MANILA — House trial spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur said Sunday that Vice President Sara Duterte has only herself to blame for the impeachment trial now underway against her in Congress.

Alonto Adiong argued that the proceedings would not have transpired had Duterte not engaged in alleged misconduct, according to statements made during a forum in the capital. The House official's remarks came as the trial continues to draw scrutiny from lawmakers and the public.

The impeachment case against the Vice President marks a significant political development in the country. Alonto Adiong's comments reflect the position of impeachment trial managers who have taken the lead in presenting the case against Duterte before the Senate.

The Vice President has previously denied allegations against her and defended her record in office. The ongoing trial represents one of the most consequential impeachment proceedings in recent Philippine political history, with implications for the administration and governance.
