PETALING JAYA, Aug 19 — The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) intends to put forward recipients of its cleaning worker awards for consideration in the 2026 state honours system, according to officials overseeing the initiative.

The move reflects government efforts to elevate the status of sanitation workers and recognise their vital role in maintaining public health and environmental cleanliness. Award-winning cleaners who have demonstrated exceptional performance and dedication in their roles will be eligible for nomination.

The ministry has emphasised that the proposal aims to acknowledge the often-overlooked contributions of workers in the sanitation sector, many of whom perform demanding duties in challenging conditions across residential areas, public facilities and urban centres.

Further details regarding the selection criteria, nomination process and timeline for the 2026 honours awards are expected to be announced by the ministry in due course. The initiative aligns with broader government policies aimed at improving welfare and recognition standards for workers in essential service sectors.
