Housing Ministry Upgrades Over 1,500 Public Toilets Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR — The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) has allocated RM154 million towards upgrading public toilet facilities in municipalities and local authorities throughout the country, addressing long-standing concerns over sanitation standards in public spaces.

The initiative, announced by the ministry, encompasses the renovation and modernisation of more than 1,500 public toilet facilities across Malaysia. The project aims to enhance hygiene conditions and user experience while ensuring facilities meet current public health requirements and accessibility standards.

Local authorities have been tasked with implementing the upgrades, which include repairs, maintenance improvements, and infrastructure enhancements. The ministry has prioritised facilities in high-traffic areas including shopping districts, recreational spaces, and transportation hubs.

The renovation programme reflects the government's commitment to improving public amenities and supporting municipal services across the country. Officials noted that the initiative would also generate employment opportunities within local communities during the implementation phase.

The KPKT has indicated that the project will be rolled out progressively, with local authorities coordinating timelines and execution of works within their respective jurisdictions.
