The Houthi military spokesman announced that their forces had successfully struck King Fahd International Airport in Riyadh along with additional military and civilian installations across Saudi Arabia, according to statements released on Wednesday. The group claimed to have used advanced drone and missile technology in the coordinated operation, though independent verification of the strikes remained unavailable at the time of reporting.
Saudi Arabia's air defense systems have repeatedly intercepted projectiles fired by Houthi forces in recent years. The kingdom maintains a comprehensive defense network to protect its critical infrastructure and civilian areas from attacks originating from Yemen.
The Houthi claims come amid ongoing tensions in the Arabian Peninsula, where the group has conducted multiple cross-border operations against Saudi targets since 2015. The attacks have periodically disrupted regional security and drawn international concern over their impact on shipping lanes and energy infrastructure.
The Saudi-led coalition, which launched a military intervention in Yemen in March 2015, has faced criticism from human rights organizations regarding civilian casualties. The Houthis, designated as a terrorist organization by Saudi Arabia and several Western nations, maintain they are defending Yemen against foreign aggression.
