Yemeni police confirmed that missiles hit the airport in Aden, Yemen's main port city, with no immediate casualties reported. A security official and traffic controller said a military section of the airport hosting forces aligned with the Saudi-backed government was targeted, though both declined to be named as they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The attack represents an escalation in hostilities between Yemen's internationally recognized government and the Houthi militia, which is backed by Iran. The rebels have previously targeted both neighboring Saudi Arabia and Aden, which has served as the seat of Yemen's UN-recognized government since 2015.
The missile strike follows a deadly assault on a presidential palace complex in Aden just hours earlier, underscoring the intensifying violence in the contested city. The Houthis have not yet claimed responsibility for Friday's airport attack, though officials have attributed the strike to the militant group.
The renewed attacks highlight the volatile security situation in Yemen as the broader regional conflict between Iran-aligned forces and Saudi-led coalition partners continues. Aden remains a focal point of contention as various factions vie for control of the strategically significant port and surrounding territories.
