Houthis claim 17 killed in Saudi airstrikes over two days

The Houthi health ministry in Yemen has accused Saudi Arabia of killing 17 people in airstrikes conducted over a two-day period, with claims that most of the fatalities were children.

According to the Houthi account, the strikes targeted civilian areas including homes, residential neighbourhoods and market areas. The allegations come amid ongoing tensions between the Iranian-aligned Houthis and the Saudi-led military coalition that has been involved in Yemen's conflict.

The Houthis regularly report on casualties from airstrikes, though figures are often difficult to independently verify. The Saudi-led coalition has previously denied intentionally targeting civilians, stating it conducts operations against Houthi military positions.

The incident underscores the humanitarian toll of Yemen's protracted conflict, which has displaced millions and left much of the population dependent on humanitarian assistance. International observers have expressed concern over civilian casualties throughout the conflict.
