The Iran-aligned Houthi movement claimed responsibility for drone and missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport on Sunday, according to statements from the militant group.
The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have repeatedly launched strikes against Saudi Arabia in recent years as part of the ongoing conflict between the two sides. The group has developed an increasingly sophisticated arsenal of unmanned aerial vehicles and ballistic missiles capable of reaching deep into Saudi territory.
Saudi Arabia's air defenses have previously intercepted multiple Houthi attacks targeting the kingdom. Officials in Riyadh have not yet issued statements confirming Sunday's incident or detailing any damage or casualties.
The latest claimed attack comes amid broader tensions in the region and follows a pattern of Houthi strikes that have periodically disrupted commercial and civilian operations across Saudi Arabia. The kingdom has conducted an ongoing military campaign against the Houthis since 2015, backed by a coalition of regional and international partners.
Neither Saudi authorities nor independent sources have verified the Houthis' claims regarding the scope or success of the reported strikes.
