Humanoid robot to assist commuters at Little India MRT station

Commuters at Little India MRT station will have an unusual helper on hand from late August, as a humanoid robot takes up a temporary role assisting visitors with directions and information.

The robot, known as Olly, will be stationed at the station from August 31 through September 11 as part of a pilot initiative. The deployment aims to test the feasibility of robotic assistance in helping guide passengers through the busy transport hub.

Little India MRT's central location in Singapore's public transport network makes it an ideal venue for the trial, given the high volume of daily commuters and visitors passing through the station.

The trial represents an exploration of how emerging robotic technology might enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency at transport facilities. Feedback gathered during the two-week period is expected to inform future decisions regarding wider implementation of such systems across Singapore's transit network.
