Hyderabad Airport Slashes User Charges by 30% Under New Tariff Plan

Passengers using Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport will benefit from a 30 per cent reduction in user charges under a new regulatory framework introduced by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). The revised tariff regime represents a substantial shift in how the airport operator recovers costs from travellers during the current tariff period.
The regulatory body has implemented an incremental Airport Revenue Requirement (ARR) approach designed to ease the financial burden on passengers. Under this mechanism, the airport will not levy upfront charges for major capital projects that have not yet commenced operations or remain under development. This staggered cost recovery model aims to align charges more closely with the timing of actual service delivery.
The new tariff structure applies to both aeronautical and non-aeronautical services at the airport. By deferring expenses associated with future infrastructure development, the AERA's approach seeks to balance the airport operator's financial needs with affordability concerns for the travelling public. The framework will remain in effect throughout the designated tariff period before undergoing further review.
The reduction in user charges is expected to provide relief to airlines and passengers, particularly as air travel demand continues to recover across South India. The measure reflects regulatory efforts to maintain competitive airport charges while ensuring adequate investment in facility upgrades and maintenance.
