Hyderabad-based Cosmoserve launches space debris removal hub

Cosmoserve Space, a startup focused on in-orbit satellite services, has established its operational headquarters in Hyderabad as it prepares to enter the emerging space economy sector. The newly unveiled Base 1 facility will serve as the company's hub for developing technologies related to space debris removal, satellite refuelling, and on-orbit servicing—critical services expected to support India's expanding space infrastructure.

The venture has raised $6 million in seed-stage funding to support its technology development and mission preparation. The capital infusion reflects growing investor interest in space technology startups addressing the challenge of orbital debris, which poses increasing risks to active satellites and space operations.

With commercial operations targeted for 2028, Cosmoserve joins a select group of companies globally working on active debris removal and satellite servicing technologies. India's space sector has created an enabling environment for such ventures, supported by regulatory frameworks from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) and growing demand from both domestic and international satellite operators.

The establishment of the Hyderabad facility underscores the city's emergence as a technology hub for space industry initiatives. The focus on debris management aligns with international space sustainability efforts, as uncontrolled orbital debris poses a mounting threat to the long-term viability of space operations.
