Hyderabad civic body launches fresh push against dengue-carrying mosquitoes

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has ramped up its mosquito awareness and control operations across the city, focusing on both preventive education and ground-level interventions. The initiative comes as authorities work to combat the spread of dengue and other mosquito-borne illnesses that pose significant public health risks during seasonal peaks.

As part of the campaign, GHMC teams are conducting awareness sessions in residential areas, emphasizing the importance of eliminating stagnant water sources where mosquitoes breed. Health officials have advised residents to maintain proper sanitation, regularly clean water storage containers, and report potential breeding sites to municipal authorities.

The civic body has deployed dedicated squads to conduct surveillance and carry out fogging operations in high-risk zones identified through disease surveillance data. Officials are also coordinating with health departments to ensure timely detection and management of cases, while emphasizing that community participation remains essential to the success of mosquito control efforts.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and seek medical attention immediately upon experiencing symptoms such as high fever, joint pain, or rash. The GHMC has also made available information on preventive measures including the use of mosquito nets, repellents, and protective clothing, particularly during dawn and dusk hours when mosquito activity peaks.
