Hyderabad civic official arrested for alleged bribery in construction case

A town planning official with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was apprehended on bribery charges following an undercover operation in the city. Tulasiram Sunitha, the accused official, was caught accepting ₹4 lakh in bribes, while investigating authorities seized an additional ₹2.5 lakh in unaccounted cash during the arrest.

According to the complaint, Sunitha allegedly demanded ₹8 lakh from a construction project owner to overlook demolition orders issued by the GHMC Deputy Commissioner. The official purportedly offered to permit the complainant to continue building construction activities while ensuring no further administrative harassment would be directed toward the project.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within municipal administration in India's major cities. Authorities have registered a case against Sunitha, and the matter is under investigation. The seized funds have been documented as part of the evidence in the case.

The GHMC, which oversees civic administration across Hyderabad, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the arrest or any internal disciplinary measures.
