Hyderabad gets nod for elevated corridor, five ropeways and three ROBs

The Centre has approved multiple transport infrastructure initiatives for Hyderabad, signalling its commitment to easing congestion and improving connectivity in the Telangana capital. The green light covers an elevated corridor linking L.B. Nagar and Hayathnagar, five ropeways across the city and three additional road-over-bridges, according to the Telangana Minister overseeing the projects.

The Union government has also responded positively to a proposal for a greenfield highway connecting Hyderabad and Amaravati, recognising the strategic importance of improved inter-city linkages in the region. The elevated corridor, to be constructed along the Hyderabad–Srisailam National Highway-765, is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel times on one of the city's key arterial routes.

Union officials have been directed to expedite preparation of a fresh detailed project report for the elevated corridor, a move expected to accelerate the project's advancement to implementation phase. The initiatives are part of a broader push to upgrade Hyderabad's transport infrastructure and address growing mobility challenges in the rapidly expanding metropolitan area.

The approval of multiple projects simultaneously reflects the Centre's focus on enhancing urban connectivity in major cities across South India. Combined with the proposed Hyderabad–Amaravati highway, these projects are expected to strengthen regional connectivity while bolstering Hyderabad's position as a major economic and transport hub in Southeast India.
