A post-graduate student in Hyderabad has been taken into custody for allegedly stealing spare tyres from parked vehicles across the city, police said on Tuesday. The accused, an MBA student, targeted vehicles including sports utility vehicles such as the Mahindra Thar, according to law enforcement officials.
Investigators revealed that the suspect employed a calculated modus operandi to carry out the thefts. He would approach puncture repair shops in different localities and borrow specialised tools under various pretexts. These borrowed implements were subsequently used to remove spare wheels from vehicles parked in residential and commercial areas.
Police said the accused identified target vehicles through reconnaissance and struck when owners were away. The strategy of borrowing tools rather than purchasing them was apparently designed to minimise traceability and expenditure. Authorities recovered stolen tyres and tools from the suspect's possession during the investigation.
The police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries to identify additional victims and recover more stolen property. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and employ anti-theft measures such as locking spare wheels and parking vehicles in secure locations.
