Hyderabad MLA seeks permanent status for mosque staff workers

Nampally MLA Majid Hussain has urged authorities to regularise the services of employees working at Mecca Masjid and Shahi Masjid in Hyderabad's Old City. The legislator highlighted that these workers remain engaged throughout the year, performing essential duties at the religious institutions on a continuous basis.

The demand for regularisation reflects concerns over the employment status of mosque staff who undertake maintenance, administrative, and religious functions without formal job security or statutory benefits. Workers at these historic mosques operate on a daily basis to support religious activities and maintain the premises.

Hussain's intervention comes as part of broader discussions around formalising employment arrangements for workers in religious institutions across the state. Regularisation would provide these employees with contractual protections, social security benefits, and predictable compensation structures.

Mecca Masjid and Shahi Masjid are among Hyderabad's oldest and most significant religious landmarks, attracting large congregations daily. The regularisation of their workforce could serve as a precedent for similar arrangements at other religious institutions across the city and state.
