Hyderabad police bust counterfeit currency racket operating from residence
Authorities in Hyderabad have dismantled a counterfeiting operation that was producing fake currency notes of high denominations using desktop printers. Police seized over 1,100 forged notes with a face value of approximately ₹2.91 lakh during the raid.

The Hyderabad Police Crime Investigation Department has arrested members of a currency counterfeiting gang accused of printing fake ₹100, ₹200 and ₹500 notes from a residential premises. The operation was discovered during a routine investigation into illicit financial activities in the city.
During the raid, authorities recovered 1,124 counterfeit notes bearing a total face value of ₹2.91 lakh. Police also seized the printing equipment and materials used in the counterfeiting operation, which was fully equipped to produce high-quality forged currency.
Investigators revealed that the accused members learned counterfeiting techniques by watching instructional videos on social media platforms, particularly YouTube and Instagram. The gang allegedly intended to circulate the fake notes through small-scale transactions at liquor outlets and vegetable markets, where the fraudulent currency would be less likely to attract scrutiny.
The case is being investigated under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Counterfeiting of Indian Currency Act. Police have registered a case and further investigations are underway to identify additional members of the counterfeiting network and trace the distribution channels.
