Hyderabad police seize 100 vehicles in fake registration plate crackdown

In a significant crackdown targeting traffic violations, Hyderabad police have seized approximately 100 vehicles found to be operating with counterfeit or unauthorized registration plates. The enforcement action reflects heightened vigilance by traffic authorities to curb the widespread use of fake number plates, which remain a persistent challenge for traffic management and law enforcement in urban areas.

The operation aligns with the regulatory framework established under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which mandate compliance with standardized registration protocols. A key focus of the drive has been enforcement of High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) requirements, which are designed to prevent fraud and improve vehicle tracking across Indian roads.

Authorities have called on vehicle owners to ensure full compliance with existing motor vehicle regulations, warning that violations carry penalties under existing legislation. Traffic officials emphasize that proper registration and licensing are essential for public safety, law enforcement operations, and the orderly management of road traffic.

The seizure operation underscores ongoing efforts by Hyderabad traffic police to maintain regulatory compliance and deter the use of fraudulent documentation among motorists. Similar enforcement drives are expected to continue across the city to ensure sustained adherence to vehicle registration standards.
