Hyderabad Police SI dies in hit-and-run during Ganesh immersion duty

A sub-inspector with the Hyderabad Police lost his life in a hit-and-run collision on NTR Marg in the city on Tuesday evening. The officer, who was stationed on the arterial road as part of security arrangements for Ganesh immersion processions, was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene without rendering assistance.

The incident occurred during peak hours when multiple immersion processions were moving through the city. Officers positioned along the route were managing vehicular and pedestrian traffic to ensure smooth passage of the religious gatherings. The sudden impact left the sub-inspector critically injured, and he was rushed to a nearby medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and motor vehicle laws. Investigators are examining closed-circuit television footage from the area to identify the vehicle and its operator. Authorities have also appealed to witnesses and the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.

The incident has heightened concerns about traffic safety during large public gatherings in the city. Police officials stated that measures were being reviewed to enhance the security of personnel deployed during such events. The deceased officer's family has been informed, and departmental honors are expected to be accorded during final rites.
