Hyderabad's Ganesh festivals draw record crowds this year

Hyderabad's traditional Ganesh Agaman processions are drawing crowds at levels not seen before, marking a significant shift in the scale of celebrations across the city. The festivities, which welcome the elephant-headed deity into homes and public spaces, have expanded considerably compared to previous years.

Shashidhar Ravinuthala, general secretary of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti, noted that while Agaman processions are not a new tradition in Hyderabad, the current celebrations have transcended conventional boundaries. "The scale of the festivities is touching a different level this year," Ravinuthala said, highlighting the growing enthusiasm among residents.

The surge in participation reflects broader trends of renewed interest in cultural and religious festivals across South India's major metropolitan areas. Enhanced planning, expanded participation from various communities, and improved visibility through social platforms appear to have contributed to the heightened engagement.

Organisers have coordinated with local authorities to accommodate the increased crowds, ensuring smooth conduct of the processions and related events throughout the city. The festivities showcase Hyderabad's multicultural ethos while celebrating one of Hinduism's most revered deities.
