Hyderabad seizes unauthorised Pakistani cosmetics worth ₹7 lakh

Hyderabad police have confiscated unauthorised cosmetic products valued at approximately ₹7 lakh from retail stores in Nampally and Habeeb Nagar, acting on warnings from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). The seizure follows regulatory concerns about the safety profile of these imported items.

The CDSCO had issued notices flagging that several of the seized cosmetic products contained heavy metals in concentrations exceeding permissible safety limits. Such elevated levels of heavy metals in cosmetics pose significant health risks to consumers through prolonged dermal exposure, according to regulatory guidelines.

The operation targeted multiple retail outlets across the city that were stocking these unauthorised products without proper regulatory clearance. Authorities emphasised that cosmetics imported and sold within India must comply with standards set by the CDSCO and carry appropriate certifications before reaching consumers.

This seizure underscores ongoing efforts by health and law enforcement agencies to curb the distribution of substandard and potentially dangerous cosmetic products in the retail market. Consumers are advised to verify product authenticity and regulatory compliance before purchase, particularly with imported cosmetics.
