Hyrox obstacle course event gets conditional nod after sponsor withdrawal

The Hyrox obstacle course event has received conditional approval to go ahead following a sponsor pullout, with organisers facing stringent compliance obligations. Youth and Sports Minister Dr Taufiq Johari announced the green light on the condition that event planners fully adhere to the Safe Sport Code and all requirements set by the office of the sports commissioner.

The event, an international fitness competition combining running and obstacle challenges, had attracted controversy related to its original sponsorship arrangement. The withdrawal of the beer company as a major backer prompted a review of the event's alignment with national sports regulations and safe sport standards.

Dr Taufiq's conditional approval signals that the event can proceed under close scrutiny to ensure it meets Malaysia's sporting governance standards. Organisers will need to demonstrate comprehensive compliance with established protocols throughout the planning and execution phases.

The decision reflects the ministry's commitment to balancing event promotion with safeguarding principles in sports, ensuring that international competitions held in Malaysia maintain high standards of athlete welfare and regulatory adherence.
