Hyundai India Posts Record Q2 Sales on Margin Expansion Push

Hyundai Motor India delivered record sales volumes in the second quarter of fiscal 2026-27, accompanied by margin expansion to 9.5 percent, signalling a potential inflection point for the automaker's domestic operations. The performance marks a turnaround from earlier challenges that had pressured the company's market position in India's competitive automotive segment.

Morgan Stanley projects a sharp recovery in volumes, margins and market share during the second half of FY27, underpinned by new model launches and improved demand conditions. The brokerage sees sustained momentum building from Q2's strong base, with particular expectations tied to upcoming product introductions.

Elara Capital echoes optimism on margin trajectory, forecasting continued improvement as production efficiencies take hold and the product mix shifts toward higher-margin vehicles. However, Jefferies has adopted a more cautious stance, questioning whether current performance gains can be maintained against intensifying competitive pressures and market headwinds.

The company's expansion hinges partly on successful execution of its new vehicle launches, particularly the Bayon subcompact SUV, which is positioned as a key driver of volume and market share recovery. Analysts are closely monitoring whether new offerings can sustain the momentum evident in Q2 results or if near-term cyclical gains prove temporary.

Hyundai's performance metrics and analyst divergence underscore the volatility in India's auto sector, where sustained margin expansion remains contingent on demand trajectory, competitive dynamics and execution capabilities through the fiscal year's final two quarters.
