Hyundai launches compact SUV Bayon in Indian market

South Korea's Hyundai Motor Company has officially launched the Bayon compact SUV in India, expanding its portfolio in the fast-growing utility vehicle category. The launch marks the company's strategy to cater to price-conscious buyers seeking modern features and reliability in the sub-four-metre SUV segment.

The Bayon is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine available with both manual and continuously variable transmission (CVT) options, delivering fuel efficiency of 18.6 kilometres per litre. The engine configuration balances performance with economy, a key consideration for Indian buyers navigating fluctuating fuel prices.

The vehicle comes equipped with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a feature typically found in vehicles at higher price points. These safety technologies include adaptive cruise control and collision warning systems, aimed at enhancing occupant protection and reducing accident severity.

Hyundai has indicated that a compressed natural gas (CNG) variant of the Bayon will become available in January 2027, appealing to cost-conscious buyers who prioritise running expenses. The CNG option is expected to strengthen the model's competitiveness in a market where alternative fuel vehicles are gaining traction among middle-income consumers.

The Bayon's entry into India adds to Hyundai's existing model range and represents the automaker's commitment to meeting evolving consumer preferences for affordable, feature-rich compact SUVs in a market increasingly shifting away from traditional hatchbacks and sedans.
