I-T Department intensifies UAE property owner outreach as FAST-DS nears deadline

The Income Tax Department has intensified its outreach campaign targeting Indian property owners in the United Arab Emirates and other taxpayers ahead of the year-end submission deadline for declarations under the FAST-DS scheme. According to department officials, approximately 1,100 declarations have been received thus far, indicating moderate uptake with weeks remaining before the cutoff date.

The Faceless Assessment Scheme for Trusts and Societies represents an initiative to streamline tax compliance procedures and encourage voluntary disclosure of previously unreported assets. The scheme aims to facilitate transparent reporting of income and assets while providing a structured pathway for taxpayers to regularise their tax positions without facing excessive scrutiny.

The I-T Department's heightened engagement with UAE-based property owners reflects efforts to ensure broader awareness and compliance with tax obligations among the Indian diaspora and domestic taxpayers with overseas assets. Officials have activated multiple communication channels to inform eligible taxpayers about the scheme's benefits and procedural requirements.

With the December 31 deadline approaching, tax professionals and chartered accountants have advised clients to review their eligibility criteria and documentation requirements. The department has indicated that taxpayers considering participation should initiate the declaration process promptly to avoid last-minute complications during the final submission period.
