GSAT-7C represents a significant advancement in India's military space infrastructure, designed specifically to meet the Indian Air Force's strategic communications requirements. The satellite will operate in the Ku-band frequency spectrum, enabling encrypted and reliable data transmission across IAF command centres, airbases, and airborne platforms.
The Rs 2,563-crore satellite is being developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as part of the country's broader initiative to reduce dependence on foreign military communication systems. GSAT-7C follows the earlier GSAT-7 and GSAT-7A satellites, which have been deployed for naval and army operations respectively, establishing a comprehensive military satcom constellation.
Once operational, GSAT-7C will facilitate real-time communication between dispersed air formations, ground control stations, and command headquarters. The satellite's capacity is expected to support tactical operations, air defence coordination, and inter-service data sharing during both peacetime and contingency scenarios.
The deployment of GSAT-7C underscores India's commitment to strengthening its indigenous space-based defence capabilities. By developing dedicated military satellites, India aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce communication latencies, and ensure strategic autonomy in critical defence operations.
